Garden City, N.Y. - The Adelphi University golf team is ranked third in the first NCAA Division II Northeast Region poll of the spring, which was released on March 19 by Golfstat. The Panthers have a season-high two players ranked in the Top 10 in the region among individuals. Junior Brant Kummerfeld (73.88 scoring average for sixteen rounds) remains ranked second, while senior Jantzen Vargas (75.94 for sixteen rounds) is ranked sixth. Freshman Matt Demeo (77.19 for sixteen rounds) appears on the list at 22. Bryant (308.56 scoring aggregate for eighteen rounds) is ranked first, followed by St. Thomas Aquinas (307.56 for eighteen rounds) and Adelphi (302.63 for sixteen rounds). LeMoyne (313.43 for fourteen rounds) and Pace (309.31 for sixteen rounds) round out the top-five. Robert Leopold (73.45 scoring average for eleven rounds) of Bentley is the top ranked player in the region, followed by Kummerfeld and Brian Mackey (75.69 for thirteen rounds) of Dominican. Adelphi junior Oliver Hudesman (78.69 for sixteen rounds) and senior Joe Ostrowski (79.00 for eight rounds) both moved up. Hudesman leaped 16 places and is now ranked 42nd, while Ostrowski jumped six spots and is now ranked 49th among the more than 150 individuals in the Northeast Region. Panther freshman David Novick is ranked 106th. The Panthers lead the district in all four scoring categories, team score versus par (17.88 strokes over par per round); average individual score (76.65); average dropped score (81.99) and average team score (302.63). Adelphi is also ranked fourth in strength of schedule. Adelphi returns to action on Monday, March 31, at the Goldey-Beacom College Invitational at Hartefeld National Golf Club in Avondale, Pennsylvania. |
