Golf Fourth After Day One of The Mount St. Mary's Fall Classic

Littlestown, PA - The Adelphi University golf team is in fourth place after day one of the 13-team Mt. St. Mary's University Fall Classic at Quail Valley Country Club in Littlestown, Pennsylvania. The Panthers (299) were led by senior Jantzen Vargas and junior Brant Kummerfeld, who both shot one-over par rounds of 73.

Host Mt. St. Mary's (291) leads the team competition, with Temple (293) two shots back in second and Hofstra (296) in third. Adelphi is in fourth, followed by Fairfield (301) and St. Francis-PA. (302).

Sean Davy of Hofstra, Andrew Mason of Temple and Mark MacKay of Ottawa all shot one-under par rounds of 71 to head the field of individuals.

Vargas and Kummerfeld are in a tie for ninth place in the field of 69 individuals. Senior Mauricio Saavedra added a three-over par round of 75 and is in a tie for 24th place. Kummerfeld recovered from a triple bogey on the second hole, playing the final 16 holes in two-under par, while Vargas rolled in four birdies and Saavedra made three birdies.

The Panthers also received strong showings from juniors Joe Ostrowski (77) and Oliver Hudesman (78) as well as freshman Matt Demeo (79).

Adelphi completes the Fall season on Saturday, October 20, at the Mt. St. Mary's Fall Classic at Quail Valley Country Club in Littlestown, Pennsylvania.
