Suffern, N.Y. - The Adelphi men's golf team rode the torrid play of junior Mauricio Saavedra to a third place finish at the Dominican College Invitational Golf Tournament on Friday, October 13 at Spook Rock Golf Club in Suffern, NY. Post won the inaugural event with an aggregate score of 303. Host Dominican (318) finished in the runner-up spot, seven strokes ahead of the Panthers. Saavedra shot an 80 (40-40) to lead the Panthers in scoring for the third consecutive tournament and for the fourth time in the team's first six tournaments. Adelphi senior Peter Alt continued his steady play of late en route to an 81 (41-40). Adelphi junior Jantzen Vargas played holes ten through sixteen in one-under par while shooting an 81(42-39). Fellow junior Joe Ostrowski played his final ten holes in two-over par en route to an 83 that helped preserve the Panthers' finish. Lloyd Notley of Post won medalist honors at the Dominican event with a one-under par score of 71. Brian Mackey of Dominican shot an even-par 72 to earn individual runner-up honors. Adelphi returns to action on Sunday, October 15 at the two-day St. Thomas Aquinas College Fall Classic at the Philip J. Rotella Golf Course in Thiells, NY. |
