Sept. 25, 2007 Syracuse, N.Y. - The Adelphi University golf team finished third in the 21-team ECAC Division II Men's Golf Championship on Monday at the Drumlins Golf Course in Syracuse, New York. Host LeMoyne (289-296 - 585) edged tournament runner-up Bryant (298-290 - 588) by three strokes and Adelphi finished six strokes back (300-291 - 591). The Panthers were led by junior Brant Kummerfeld (73-73 - 146), who finished in a tie for ninth place, while seniors Jantzen Vargas (75-72 - 147) and Mauricio Saavedra (76-71 - 147), finished in a tie for 11th place in the 105-player field. Freshman Matt Demeo (76-77 - 153) continued his steady early-season play with a tie for 37th place. Adelphi also received a huge boost from junior Oliver Hudesman (82-75 - 157), who shot a four over par round of 75 on Monday that featured birdies on 13, 14 and 18. Kummerfeld achieved his second consecutive top-ten finish this Fall by posting birdies on 5 and 13 and he also hit 28 greens in regulation over 36 holes. Vargas collected his ninth straight top-15 finish thanks to his 11th place showing, while Saavedra made eight birdies over two days to secure his tie with Vargas. The Adelphi golf team returns to action on Tuesday, October 2, at the Army Junior Mule Kicker Classic at the West Point Golf Course in West Point, New York. |
