Syracuse, N.Y. - The Adelphi University golf team finished up day one in fourth place in the 21-team field at the ECAC Division II Men's Golf Championship at the Drumlins Golf Course in Syracuse, New York. Host LeMoyne (289) leads the team competition, with Bryant (298) in second and Goldey-Beacom (299) in third. The Panthers and Dominican (300) are in fourth, 11 shots back. The Panthers (300) were led by junior Brant Kummerfeld, who shot a two-over par round of 73, placing him in a tie for eighth place in a field of 105 golfers. Senior Jantzen Vargas made a key contribution with a four-over par round of 75. Kummerfield hit 14 greens in regulation and made three birdies, while Vargas tallied five birdies en route to his 75. Adelphi also received strong showings from senior Mauricio Saavedra (76), who closed out his round with birdies on his 16th and 17th holes, and freshman Matt Demeo. Demeo made three birdies and played the par-5's in three-under par, posting a 76. Junior Oliver Hudesman added an 82. Brian Mackey of Dominican shot an even-par round of 71 to lead the field, with a group of six players sitting one shot back at one-over par 72. Adelphi returns to action on Monday, September 24, at the ECAC Division II Men's Golf Championship at the Drumlins GC in Syracuse, NY. |
