Middletown, DE - The Adelphi University men's golf team finished in third place at the Goldey-Beacom College Fall Invitational on Sunday at Back Creek Golf Course in Middletown, DE. The Panthers (305-308 - 613) ended the two-day tournament nine shots behind tourney winner Wilmington (307-297 - 604) and two behind tournament runner-up St. Thomas Aquinas (298-313 - 611) in the 11-team field. Pace (316-302 - 618) placed fourth while Dominican (312-308 - 620) and Goldey-Beacom (313-307 - 620) tied for fifth. Mark Murphy (70-75 - 145) of Wilmington won individual honors by four strokes over a trio of players. Adelphi was led by senior Jantzen Vargas (70-80 - 150), who finished in a tie for fifth place in the 54-player field. Senior Mauricio Saavedra (80-74 - 154) and freshman Matt Demeo (78-76 - 154) both finished tied for 11th place. Junior Brant Kummerfeld (77-78 - 155) tied for 18th, highlighted by a birdie-eagle-birdie run on holes 15 through 17 on Saturday, while junior Oliver Hudesman (80-80 - 160) finished in a tie for 30th place. The Panthers return to action on Sunday, September 16, at 9:00 am in the Dowling College September Shootout at Long Island National Golf Course in Riverhead, New York. |
