Middletown, DE - The Adelphi University men's golf team is in second place after day one of the two-day Goldey-Beacom College Fall Classic. The Panthers shot a first-round aggregate of 305 and are seven shots behind leader St. Thomas Aquinas (298) in the 11-team field.

Adelphi was led by senior Jantzen Vargas, who carded a one-under par round of 70 and is currently tied for first place with Mark Murphy (70) of Wilmington. Nick Zellotas (72) of St. Thomas Aquinas is two shots back of Vargas and Murphy in the 54-player field. Wilmington (307) is in third place and Dominican (312) is in fourth.

Junior Brant Kummerfeld shot a five-over par 76 that featured a birdie-eagle-birdie run on holes 15 through 17, while freshman Matt Demeo shot a solid round of 78. Junior Oliver Hudesman and senior Mauricio Saavedra rounded out Adelphi's top five, contributing matching 80s.

Round one was contested at the Frog Hollow GC in Middletown, DE., with the second round to be held at Back Creek GC, also in Middletown.

The Panthers return to action on Sunday, September 9, at 9:00 am in round two of the Goldey-Beacom College Fall Classic at Back Creek GC in Middletown, DE.
