Garden City, N.Y. - The Adelphi University Golf team opened up their fall 2009 campaign with an excellent showing at the Assumption College Shootout in Sutton, Massachusetts. The Panthers faced difficult conditions on the Blackstone National Golf Course, but prevailed with a team score of 294 strokes. They were 12 strokes ahead of second place, a tie between Lemoyne College and American International College.

The Panthers were led by junior Matt Demeo and sophomore Stuart Pulkinen, each of whom shot 72 for the difficult 18-hole course and shared the individual title. Following Demeo and Pulkinen was senior Jason Doppelt and sophomore Joshua Hamlett, both of whom shot 75, good enough to tie for fourth place. Freshman Jonathan Singer had an excellent showing, placing sixth with a 76.

The Panthers tee off again next Tuesday, Sept 15, at the Chesapeake Bay Golf Club in Rising Sun, MD, for the Goldey-Beacom Invitational.
