Riverhead, N.Y. - The Adelphi University golf team finished third in the 16-team Dowling College Peter King Memorial Tournament, held at Long Island National Golf Club in Riverhead, New York. The Panthers were led by freshman Matt Demeo (78-73 - 151), who finished in a tie for fifth place, and junior Brant Kummerfeld (76-76 - 152), who finished in a tie for eighth place in the 82-player field.

Post (308-294 - 602) won the team title, besting Pace (300-310 - 610) by eight strokes. Adelphi (313-307 - 620) finished third and Dowling (307-319 - 626) and St. Thomas Aquinas (331-295 - 626) rounded out the top five, followed by Wilmington (315-314 - 629) and Dominican (317-314 - 631).

Ryan Phillip (75-71 - 146) of Post won medalist honors, edging Garret Beyor (73-74 - 147) of American International by a stroke. Brian Mackey (75-73 - 148) of Dominican finished third.

Demeo played his final twelve holes in one-under par with birdies on holes 10, 12 and 18. Kummerfeld dropped a 22-foot birdie putt on the third hole and now has eight top-ten finishes in ten tournaments this year.

Adelphi also received solid play from senior Jantzen Vargas (78-80 - 158), who finished in a tie for 28th place, junior Oliver Hudesman (81-78 - 159), who finished in a tie for 31st place, and senior Joe Ostrowski (88-86 - 174).

The Panthers third place showing is their sixth top-three finish in ten events this year and eighth top-five finish. This is the second top-five finish for Demeo and fourth top-15 outing this season.

With key contributions throughout the lineup, the Brown and Gold were able to garner a 13-2 head-to-head record against Northeast schools in the Dowling tournament, giving Adelphi a 72-15 head-to-head record against regional competition this year.

"The team has done everything asked of them," Head coach Scott Allen said. "Their achievements are attributable to their work ethic in the practice environment. However, we know our work is not done yet."

Adelphi is back in action on April 21 in the American International College Yellow Jacket Intercollegiate Golf Classic at Springfield Country Club in West Springfield, Massachusetts.
