Avondale, PA - The Adelphi University golf team is in fourth place after day one of the 16-team Goldey-Beacom College Spring Invitational, held at Hartefeld National Golf Club in Avondale, Pennsylvania. The Panthers were led by junior Brant Kummerfeld's one-under par round of 71, which was good enough to place Kummerfeld in a tie for first place. Indiana University-Pennsylvania (298) has the day one lead, two strokes ahead of second-place Millersville (300). Dowling (304), Adelphi (306), Dominican (307) and West Chester (307) round out the top-five. Kummerfeld, Garrett Beyor of American International, and Matt Hurlihy of Pace all share the individual lead with one-under par rounds of 71. Brian Mackey (72) of Dominican is in fourth place in the 82-player field. Kummerfeld made three birdies, including a 25-foot putt on the 10th hole, and fourteen pars en route to his second consecutive under-par round. Freshman Matt Demeo (77), who is currently in a tie for 18th place, continued his steady play with a round that featured two birdie putts, a ten-footer on the first hole and a twelve-footer on the 14th hole. Senior Jantzen Vargas (78), who is in a tie for 22nd place also had a strong first day showing. Junior Oliver Hudesman and senior Joe Ostrowski also played well, posting scores of 80 and 84. Freshman David Novick contributed a 90. Adelphi will return to action on Tuesday, April 1, in round two of the Goldey-Beacom College Spring Invitational at Hartefeld National Golf Club in Avondale, Pennsylvania. |
