DANCE TEAM
About the Dance Team
Our head coach is Jenna Godown. She's entering her fourth year as a coach, graduated from Adelphi in 2006, and was previously a 4 year member of the dance team. Our assistant coach is Jennifer Walden, a 2007 graduate of Adelphi, and was also a member of the dance team. This is her second year as a coach.
Our performances
We perform at many school functions, such as homecoming, pep rallys, and the occasional soccer or lacrosse game. Basketball season is always super busy. We kick off the season with two performances at Midnight Madness, the biggest event on campus of the year. We perform at each home basketball game (men's and women's), and often attend away games as well. We perform at half time as well as during the time-outs. On top of on-campus activities, we are also a competitive team. We usually compete at 2 different competitions, one on the island, and one we travel to.
Our choreography
We primarily do jazz and hip-hop routines. Coaches and captains do the majority of the choreography, but we are always open to letting others choreograph, especially for basketball time-outs.
Time commitments
Our 'season' runs from August- April, including performances during the winter break. Practices are held every Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday nights. It is typical that we extend practices, or add additional ones, especially before Midnight Madness and competition. This team is a commitment, and should come second only to academics. Once you are a member of the team, you will have the ability to register for classes early as a student-athlete, so you can schedule your classes around practices. We always find time for team building activities, community service, and fundraising, and attendance at these activities is also very important!
Try-Out Information
Try-outs consist of the execution of technical skills as well as a jazz routine or hip-hop routine which will be taught to you at the try-outs.
