About CHAMPS:
The AU CHAMPS/ Life Skills program was initiated on Adelphi University's campus in 2006. It was started in order to foster the growth of the student athlete both in sport and in the classroom while enrolled at Adelphi. Accomplishment of this mission statement will be feasible through the integration of elements such as: Academic Success, Athletic Excellence, Personal Growth, Career Development and a Commitment to Community Service. The combination of these elements will permit student athletes to become better suited for the challenges and world ahead in a life after athletics.

History of the CHAMPS/Life Skills Coalition
In 1991, the NCAA Foundation initiated efforts to create a total development program for student-athletes. Through the collaborative efforts of the NCAA Foundation and the Division 1A Athletic Directors' Association, the CHAMPS/Life Skills Program (Challenging Athletes' Minds for Personal Success) was created. Today, the NCAA Education Outreach staff oversees the development of the program, offering services, support and programs to participating institutions throughout the year. The CHAMPS/Life Skills Program is supported through the promotional and financial efforts of the NCAA Leadership Advisory Board and the NCAA national office.
