Field Hockey Grounds SCSU Owls, 6-1

West Haven, Conn. -- Behind goals from five different players and a pair from Lena Pollich, the Adelphi University field hockey team picked up a 6-1 Northeast-10 Conference win over the host Owls on the campus of Southern Connecticut State University on Tuesday night.

Pollich, who scored a pair for the second straight contest, was joined on the Adelphi (5-3, 2-1 NE-10) attack by Elizabeth Mercuri, Elissa Frein, Justine DeLuca and Danielle Powers. The Panthers dominated time of possession in the contest, outshooting the hosts by a 27-11 margin. Amanda Gargiulo made three stops in net for the Brown and Gold, while the Panthers also got defensive saves from Jessica Lodato and Jamie Ahrens in the effort.

Pollich's stick provided the first goal of the game for Adelphi just 4:15 into the contest, as she took a Mercuri offering into the middle of the net for the icebreaker. Just over five minutes later, Ahrens came up pick for the Panthers, stopping a Bailey McGinnis shot from going in to keep the one-goal lead. Adelphi's next two goals came within a three-minute span, as Mercuri and Frein found the back of the net with the freshman scoring off an assist from Pollich to make it a 3-0 game at the 15:42 mark. That was all the offense for either side in the first half, as Brianna Craft made four of her 14 total saves over the final 12 minutes.

Craft made four more saves against Adelphi's offense to start the second half, but DeLuca broke through her defenses in for her third goal of the season as she took a Mercrui pass into net to make it a 4-0 game with 48:28 remaining. At the 61:10 mark, Powers scored the first goal of her collegiate career on a breakaway shot to the right of the net, before the Owls got on the board on a Vienna Pallisco tally to break up the shutout. Adelphi wasn't done on offense yet, however, as Pollich scored to the right of the cage for the final goal with just 1:07 remaining.

The Panthers return to action on Saturday, Oct. 1 when they host the Yellow Jackets of American International in a 1 pm NE-10 contest.

NOTES
- Pollich scored twice for the second straight game.
- The Panthers took both games this season from the Owls by 9-0 and 6-1 margins.
