Indianapolis, Ind. - The NCAA Division II Women's Volleyball Committee has selected the 64 teams that will be participating in the 2016 NCAA Division II Women's Volleyball Championship. Eight teams were selected from each of the following eight regions: Atlantic, Central, East, Midwest, South, South Central, Southeast and West -- including the Adelphi University women's volleyball team, who will compete in the East Region as the eighth seed.
The Panthers will travel to Amherst, New York to compete in the NCAA East Regional on the campus of Daemen College on Thursday, December 1. The eighth seeded Brown and Gold (20-12) will take on #1 NYIT (28-5) in the first round of the regional. Under the direction of Danielle MacKnight, Adelphi has never missed an NCAA Championship field. During Adelphi's current run, they are 4-9 in NCAA Championship play, advancing to the second round on four occasions -- including last fall, when the Panthers were the top seed.
Eight eight-team regionals will be played at on-campus sites. Regional competition will be single-elimination, best three-of-five-set matches and will not include a third-place match. The winners of each of the eight regionals will advance to the finals, Dec. 8-10, at the Sanford Pentagon in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. The Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference and Sioux Falls Sports Authority will serve as hosts. Competition at the finals site will be single-elimination, best three-of-five-set matches.
