Port Washington, NY - Another successful year is in the books as Adelphi University hosted the Janet L. Ficke Golf Classic, celebrating its 10th Anniversary on Monday, July 21 at the Harbor Links Golf Course. Early returns show the event has raised approximately $8,000 for women's sports at Adelphi.

The event kicked off with a brunch, sponsored by Judy Salerno '66, and chances to purchase raffles tickets for 62 prizes as well as other auction and raffle items, including a 50/50 raffle. Following brunch, nearly 115 golfers took to the beautiful Harbor Links course for a 12:00 pm shotgun start followed by a cocktail reception and dinner.

Assistant Athletic Director and Event Manager, Georgette D. Brown kicked off the dinner by recognizing the effort of the golf committee as well as thanking all the sponsors and donations that helped make the day such a success, including the title sponsor Metro Team Outfitters.

Following the remarks from Brown, Adelphi University President Dr. Robert A. Scott and Director of Athletics and Recreation Danny McCabe thanked the crowd and expressed the importance of the Ficke Golf Outing. Mentioned was that a portion of the money raised in 2013 went towards the Panther Statue that now resides in front of the Center For Recreation and Sports. McCabe also added the accomplishments of Panther female athletic teams in 2013-14, concluded by the sixth national championship for the women's lacrosse program.

Also thanking and recognizing those in attendance was the person who the outing is named after, Janet L. Ficke. Ficke was grateful to all her former players who are able to come back and those who have shown their support for all 10 years of the event.

Next year, the outing will take place at the nearby Cherry Valley Club on Monday, July 13, 2015.
