Garden City, NY -Â The Adelphi University women's basketball program donated their time on November 1 across four different supermarket locations in the area to participate in the Island Harvest "Turkey and Trimmings Collection Campaign. The proceeds to the event donates the fixings for Thanksgiving dinners to Long Island families who can not afford to provide for their families during the holiday season.
Split into four separate "teams", each was set up at the entrance of the location with Island Harvest signs. Each group was instructed to greet people at the door, hand out the Island Harvest flyer and ask them to give a monetary donation or to return with non-perishable food items or a frozen turkey/ham to donate.
Senior
Kelly Mannix was delighted at the turnout each team experienced at all the locations. "It was great to give back to people in need, especially with the holidays coming up. People were very generous and we were very successful in collecting for Island Harvest Food Bank."
At the conclusion of the event all of the donations collected were delivered to the Island Harvest location. Approximately 10 frozen turkeys and 4 extra large boxes full of non perishable food items were given to the cause.Â
