Garden City, N.Y. – For the seventh straight year, the Adelphi University Department of Intercollegiate Athletics will be raising awareness of breast cancer this October with the Jennifer Montgomery Breast Cancer Awareness month event. During the month long event, there will be raffle tickets and "Think Pink" merchandise to raise money and awareness for the cause. All proceeds collected will be donated to the New York Statewide Breast Cancer Hotline. The 2012 Think Pink campaign generated nearly $6,500 which brings the University's total contribution to over $27,500.
Wednesday, October 2 will mark the official start of the event and will get underway with the annual Kickoff event at 10:45am on the indoor jogging surface in the Center for Recreation and Sports. At this time, the Athletic Department welcomes the staff and kids from the Early Learning Center who enjoy several laps around the track. At 11am, the event is open to students, staff, administrators and the entire Adelphi community. Additionally, there will be a fun run/walk for family and friends on Saturday, October 5 on Motamed Field beginning at 9:30am and running through 11am. A t-shirt will be given to all participants upon registration on both days.
The student-athletes will be doing their part as well by they wear "Think Pink" patches on their jerseys all month long. Additionally, there will be four "Think Pink" games during which athletes and fans alike will don pink apparel to show their support for breast cancer awareness.
In addition, raffle tickets will be sold on various dates in the University Center, while the prize drawing will be in early November. Raffle tickets can also be purchased at the front desk of the Athletic Department in the Center for Recreation and Sport beginning on Tuesday, October 1 a complete list of the raffle prizes will also be released at a later date.
