Ninth Annual Janet L. Ficke Golf Outing Raises $15,000 for Women's Athletics

Over $123,000 has been raised for women's athletics since the outing's inception in 2005

The 2013 Ficke Golf Classic raised $15,000

Port Washington, N.Y. - Adelphi University athletics hosted its ninth annual Janet L. Ficke Golf Classic at Harbor Links Golf Course in Port Washington, N.Y. on Monday, July 22. In what proved to be another successful year, the outing brought in $15,000, which will be split between Adelphi's women's athletic programs and the Panther Statue intiative.

"Thank you to all the alumni, friends and Panther Club members who participated in the Ninth Annual Janet L. Ficke Golf Outing," stated Director of Athletics and Recreation, Danny McCabe. "The Golf Committee did another outstanding job hosting a fun day at Harbor Links.  Funds raised through the golf outing will go towards enhancing our women's sports programs at Adelphi and it was great to see so many folks come out to support Panther Athletics."

Nearly, 100 golfers took part in the outing and, despite the afternoon rain, enjoyed the day's events, which began with a Judy Salerno '66 sponsored brunch in the clubhouse at the Links and a shotgun start on the course at noon. Despite heavy rain in the middle of the afternoon, the weather held up and allowed for each of the 23 groups to complete the 18 holes before heading back to the clubhouse for a cocktail hour which was sponsored by F&F Roofing and Watral Brothers Inc.

"Rain did not dampen the enthusiasm and generosity of the golfers or the volunteers," stated Janet L. Ficke, former coach and longtime friend and supporter of Adelphi athletics. "And for that, I thank and applaud them."

The Champions dinner began at 5:30 with remarks from Assistant Athletic Director and Event Manager, Georgette D. Brown and continued with comments from Adelphi University President Dr. Robert A. Scott, former Athletic Director Robert Hartwell, and concluded with McCabe. Following dinner was the drawing for over 60 raffle prizes as well as the announcement of the silent auction winners and 50/50 which reached nearly $7,000.

"We appreciate the level of commitment from every sponsor, donor, and participant each year" said Brown. "This is an event that we are extremely proud of and our women's programs continue to excel because of these generous contributions."
