Garden City, N.Y. - Adelphi University baseball senior relief pitcher Dillon McNamara was selected by the New York Yankees in the 27th round of the 2013 Major League Baseball Draft on Saturday. With the 824th pick overall, the 27-time World Series Champions made McNamara the first Panther to go in the draft since Robert Nixon went to the Cleveland Indians in the 46th round in 2011.

McNamara was selected to a trio of All-America teams to go with three All-East Region nods and Northeast-10 All-Conference First Team accolades in 2013. He led the Northeast-10 Conferece in saves with 13, posted a microscopic 0.28 earned run average and threw 29.2 innings of relief before allowing an earned run. Adelphi's stopper set the program's single-season and career saves record en route to striking out 43 batters in 32 innings.

"I am extremely happy for Dillon," said Head Coach Dom Scala, former bullpen coach for the Yankees and member of the 1978 World Series Championship staff. "The fact that he was drafted by the Yankees and has a chance to pitch in Staten Island is a great accomplishment. He had an incredible year with many accolades. This is the icing on the cake".

McNamara is one of 11 players from the NE-10 selected in the 2013 draft. Franklin Pierce led the way with four players drafted, highlighted by ABCA and Daktronics East Region Pitcher of the Year Trevor Graham going to the Chicago Cubs in the 13th round. Southern New Hampshire had three players picked, while Adelphi, Merrimack, New Haven and UMass Lowell saw one player each get the call.

Adelphi incoming freshman Zack Levinson (Staten Island, N.Y./Susan Wagner) was also selected in the draft and went to the Toronto Blue Jays in the 39th round. The standout middle infielder committed to play in Garden City earlier this year.
