Track and Field Takes Home 10 All-Region Honors

Two on the men's side and seven from the women's team were represented.

Kelly Clifford holds three school records and was an All-Region selection in the high jump.
Garden City, N.Y. – The U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) has named All-Region honorees for the 2012-13 Division II outdoor track & field season. Between nine runners, the Panthers took home a total of 10 awards between men and women. The top five from each region in individual events and each member of a relay ranked in the region's top three have earned the All-region distinction for this season. A total of 1,283 student-athletes have earned a total of 1,836 USTFCCCA All-Region honors. The USTFCCCA regions for track & field match those used for NCAA Cross Country Championships.

For the men, the distance duo of Andrew Coelho and James Panetta were the All-Region honorees in the 10,000m run. Coelho raced to a season best of 30:42 at the Bucknell Bison Classic while Panetta registered a time of 31:25 at the PENN Relays.

On the women's side, Kelly Clifford, Kristina Coiro, Elizabeth Eickelberg, Larissa Melendez, Angela Mongitore, Rosie Vassilatos made the cut in their events while Jacqueline Kaste had two nods. Additionally, between all of them, they broke a total of eight individual school records.

Clifford made her debut this outdoor season and notched her name in the record books three times. Her mark of 1.64 in the high jump earned her All-Region status and the school record while her leaps in the long (5.09m) and triple jump (10.73) are also the best in school history.

Coiro clocked in at 2:12.78 in the 800m at the Larry Ellis Invitational while Melendez notched a time of 11:12.55 in the steeplechase at PENN Relays. Each were NCAA provisional marks as well as school records.

Eickelberg took home All-Region accolades in the 5k when she broke her existing school record at the Bison Outdoor Classic with a time of 17:28.89. Kaste, a two-time All-Region winner in the 5k and 10k, posted times of 17:49 and 36:42. She was just one of four Panthers to achieve an NCAA Provisional time (10k).

Rounding out the All-Region winners is Mongitore (400m) and Vassilatos (400H). Mongitore's 56.08 in which she hit at the Virginia Last Chance Meet was just .08 shy of an NCAA mark, but broke the school record.  Vassilatos won the 400H at the Northeast-10 Championships with a personal best and school record time of 1:01.49. The mark was good enough to get into the NCAA Championship field in which she will be competing in this weekend.
