Michael Misiti Named Head Men's and Women's Tennis Coach

Misiti brings extensive club and professional experience to Panthers

Garden City, N.Y. - Michael Misiti has been named the Adelphi University men's and women's tennis head coach, it was announced by Assistant Vice President/Director of Athletics Robert Hartwell on Thursday. Misiti will succeed Lauren Leo, who stepped down on February 1 after one season to accept the position of director of tennis at Hofstra University.

The role as Adelphi's head coach will be Misiti's first coaching job at the college level, but he brings extensive club and professional tennis experience. Misiti serves as the director of junior tennis at Go!Tennis at the North Shore Tennis Club in Bayside, where he has coached top national junior players since 2009. He also gained tennis academy experience as the travel director at the Randy Mani Tennis Academy in Long Island City and as a hitting partner and staff professional at the USTA National Tennis Center in Flushing Meadows. At the National Tennis Center, Misiti was a hitting partner at four consecutive US Open tournaments and worked with various ATP/WTA professionals such as Fernando Verdasco and Aravane Rezai.

A certified USPTA professional, Misiti played Division I college tennis at Fordham University where he was a team captain. He graduated from Fordham with a Bachelor's degree in history in 2007 and earned his Master's of Education from Trident University International in 2010.

Misiti and the Panthers begin their spring season on February 10 when the men's team hosts St. Thomas Aquinas in non-league action at 7 p.m.
