Carle Place, N.Y. - The Adelphi University Department of Intercollegiate Athletics held its annual Fall Cocktail Reception on Thursday, October 24, at the Chateau Briand in Carle Place, N.Y. Ron Guidry, former New York Yankee pitcher and Cy Young Award winner signed autographs and chatted with Ed Randall on the Panther Stage in front of a crowd of nearly 400 people during the eventful evening that raised nearly $28,000 for Adelphi University athletics.
"The Adelphi Athletics Fall Cocktail Party continues to be an amazing event that helps to support the Panther Club and allows us to provide the best possible experience for our student-athletes," remarked
Danny McCabe, Director of Athletics and Campus Recreation. Â "Through the hard work of
Dom Scala and the entire organizing committee, this event has grown exponentially over the past few years. Â We are very thankful to Ron Guidry and Ed Randall for giving their time for the benefit of our student-athletes."
The evening began with cocktails and a buffet catered by the Chateau Briand, and segued into an autograph session during which Guidry signed photos, baseballs, photos and other memorabilia for all of the avid fans in attendance.

Dom Scala, head coach of the Adelphi baseball team and former bullpen coach for the New York Yankees, emceed the event and welcomed everyone with his opening speech. Scala, who caught Guidry as a teammate and bullpen coach, also introduced Randall.

Randall, a world renowned baseball media personality and host of
Ed Randall's Talking Baseball radio show, interviewed Guidry on the Panther Stage and chatted with him about his 14-year playing career with the Yankees which included striking out a club record 18 batters in a single game.

The night finished with a live auction that featured autographed baseballs, jerseys, cleats, pictures, bats and other items that were signed by prominent players such as Jorge Posada, Derek Jeter, Mariano Rivera and more. All the proceeds of which were donated to Adelphi athletics to directly benefit the student-athletes.
"I am thrilled of the outcome of the event," stated Scala "I believe we exceeded our goals once again. Ron Guidry and Ed Randall really captured the attention of all 400 guest in attendance with the inside stories of life with the Yankees. This could not have happened without the hard work and passion that our staff had in the past three months of preparation. Thanks to all and I can't wait until next year."
