Women's Lacrosse Lends Helping Hand at "Fill a Bag" Charity Event

The Panthers helped prepare care packages to hundreds of familys so they could have a Thanksgiving meal.

Rockville Centre, N.Y. - On Tuesday, November 20, 2012, the Adelphi women's lacrosse team volunteered their time at Mid Island Collision's Annual “Fill The Bag” charity event in Rockville Centre. The team helped fill bags full of non-perishable foods and distribute them so that deserving families would have a meal for Thanksgiving.

Weeks after the devastation caused by super-storm Sandy, many families are still without power and have suffered incredible damage to their homes. Mid Island Collision and the women's lacrosse team got together and helped those in need for the Thanksgiving season. The Auto group purchased nearly $100,000 worth of non-perishable food items to be bagged and sent off to the families in need. The Panthers chipped in and helped bag all of the items and distribute them to different organizations such as WhyHunger, schools, religious groups and other non-profits, which in turn would deliver the bagged meals accordingly.

“I could not be more proud of the girls and their willingness to help out to those in need,” stated Head Women's Lacrosse Coach, Rob Grella. “It's always a great feeling to give back and help the community in times of need and I'm glad our team is pitching in to help.”
