Women's Lacrosse Hosts GCAA Challenger Division Free Clinic

Around 20 youth athletes were on hand for the event.

Garden City, N.Y. – On Sunday, November 18, the women's lacrosse team held a free clinic for the Challenger Sports Division of the Garden City Athletic Association on Motamed Field. The clinic was run by the Adelphi women's lacrosse coaching staff as well as the players.

Approximately 20 youth athletes were on hand and were taught basic lacrosse instruction that included passing, shooting, goal keeping, cradling and stick work. The day ended with a scrimmage between the Challenger athletes and the women's lacrosse team.

The G.C.A.A. is dedicated to providing programs for the youth of Garden City which encourage skill development and good sportsmanship. The G.C.A.A has a zero tolerance sportsmanship policy which is strictly enforced. The most fundamental goal of the CHALLENGER DIVISION is to give everyone a chance to play, regardless of limitations.

In addition, each player is assigned a "BUDDY: to work with during practices and games.  A "BUDDY" is any person who is a willing volunteer, genuinely desiring to assist in the program:  youngsters from the local Little League communities are encouraged to be "BUDDIES."

“It was a fun day for everyone on hand,” stated Head Coach Rob Grella. “Our players had a great time volunteering and instructing the girls and the Challenger Division athletes were tremendous in their participation and willingness to learn. It was a positive learning experience for all of us.”

The women's lacrosse team will open up their 2013 season on Sunday, February 17 against St. Leo in St. Leo, Florida.
