Garden City, N.Y. – Over the past weekend, the Adelphi men's lacrosse team took part in the HEADstrong Foundation's 6th Annual Nicholas Colleluori Fall Men's Lacrosse Classic at Ridley High School in Folsom, Pa.
The Panthers were part of 24 collegiate teams spread across all three divisions that took part in the weekend-long event aimed at raising money in the fight against blood cancer; the reason for the passing of HEADstrong's founder, Nicholas Colleluori.
The squad took on Chestnut Hill on the first day and followed it up with a game against 2012 Division II National Champions Dowling College. Despite teams facing off against one another, the main goal of the weekend was to raise money for the cause, and that's exactly what the teams did. Combine, the event raised over $180,000 dollars with Adelphi doing their part and generating over $3,000 toward the fund.
“It was great to participate in the Colleluori Classic,” described Head Coach
Gordon Purdie. “Not only did we get to play some fall ball, but we also had the opportunity to be a part of a great cause. I was very proud of the way our coaches and players participated in the tournament and I think all of our guys realized that even just their presence being there was greatly appreciated.”
The Panthers receive many letters of thanks and gratitude for their participation and making the event one to remember.
