Elmwood Park, N.J. - The Adelphi University bowling team finished in eighth place at the Fairleigh Dickinson University Jamboree on Sunday, led by senior
Danielle Merino, who earned a spot on the All-Tournament Team.
The Panthers began the day 6-4 and looked to avenge their one pin previous day loss to Stephen F. Austin University. The Lumberjacks came out firing and launched a 201 pin effort to begin the four game sweep. The Panthers stayed close throughout the match but fell 4-0 in the best of seven Baker match.
Adelphi then took on the Blackbirds of Long Island University. The Panthers had their backs against the wall as the Blackbirds captured the first two games. The Panthers managed to take game three, fell to 3-1, and finally rallied back and claimed the next three games for a 4-3 victory.
The final match of the day was against Kutztown University. The Panthers took an early lead, claiming a game one victory but then dropped the next two games. The Panthers then took a 3-2 lead and were set to close out the match but a missed spare opportunity that lead to a four pin defeat. The Bears pulled away in the seventh and deciding game 225-186 to win the match 4-3.

In individual honors, Merino was selected to the All-tournament team on the strength of her 214.80 average. This is the third time this season that Merino has been selected for the All-tournament team. Merino has now been selected for five straight All-tournament teams dating back to last season when she was selected for All-tournament honors at the NEC and USBC Intercollegiate Championships. This is the longest streak of its type in program history and the first time that any player has been selected to three All-tournament teams in a single season.
As part of the Susan G. Koman “Bowl for a Cure” program, the women of the Adelphi bowling team hosted a bowl-a-thon at Sheridan Lanes in Mineola, N.Y. on October 31, 2011. Through the efforts of the team and generous contributions from local supporters the team raised $1,129.50 to aid in cancer research. The check was presented to FDU Head bowling Coach Michael LoPresti at the FDU Jamboree in Elmwood Park, N.J.
