The Adelphi University Department of Intercollegiate Athletics raised over $4,000 in the month of October in support of the 2nd Annual Jennifer Montgomery Breast Cancer Awareness Event. All of the proceeds will be donated to the Adelphi NY Statewide Breast Cancer Hotline & Support Program.

The month kicked off with a walk around campus as student-athletes tied ribbons on trees in honor of loved ones battling breast cancer. Several home games were designated as "Think Pink" games beginning with women's soccer on October 4. Jennifer Montgomery was on hand to sing the national anthem at this Homecoming celebration. Volleyball, Field Hockey, Women's Tennis and men's soccer also participated with home game events and provided "Think Pink" t-shirts to the opposing teams as well.

"The Adelphi community really pitched in to make this event a success," Assistant AD and committee member Suzette McQueen stated. "Thank you to S.G.A. for sponsoring our shirts for the second year and to all of the departments and teams that donated such amazing raffle baskets, which included a Hunter Mountain weekend package. And a special thank you to the Breast Cancer Committee for doing such a fantastic job."

Throughout the month of October the athletic teams and supporters raised money and awareness through the sale of t-shirts (sponsored by S.G.A.), lanyards and raffle tickets. The raffle drawing took place on October 31 with over 40 prizes given out.

The department will continue to sell t-shirts and lanyards at selected games. For example, Women's Basketball will host a "Pink" game on February 21 as part of the WBCA's PinkZone initiative. Dates to be announced for spring sport events.

The current tally to be donated is $4,086, however the "Think Pink" campaign will continue throughout the year. To date, the department has raised over $11,000 for the hotline in Jennifer Montgomery's name.
