Kim Barnes-Arico will resign as Adelphi University's women's head basketball coach effective May 20 as announced today by Director of Athletics Robert Hartwell. Barnes-Arico has accepted the position of women's head basketball coach at Division I St. John's University in Jamaica, N.Y. A full press conference will be held on Tuesday, May 14, at St. John's.
"Kim took the Adelphi program to a higher level," Hartwell said. "She is an outstanding coach and I believe St. John's picked the best coach for the job. She will do a great job for them."
Under the direction of Barnes-Arico, Adelphi led Division II with a 21-0 undefeated record to start the season and its first ever New York Collegiate Athletic Conference (NYCAC) regular season and tournament title. The national ranked Panthers and NCAA Northeast Regional Tournament runners-up, finished the season with a 28-3 overall record.
In her three season as Adelphi's head coach, Barnes-Arico has amassed a 65-24 record, setting team records in most wins in a season, most consecutive wins and best winning percentage with her 2001-02 squad. For her accomplishments this season, Barnes-Arico was named NYCAC Coach of the Year, Met Basketball Writer's Association Division II Women's Coach of the Year and the Nassau County Sports Commission Female Coach of the Year.
