Deneé Rivera-Barracato is beginning her sixth year at Adelphi University. In August, 2006 she assumed the role of Assistant Athletic Director/Senior Woman Administrator for the Athletic Department. This includes making sure the university is compliant with regards to issues of Title IX and student-athlete well-being. Her main focus is to ensure that all student-athletes comply with NCAA, ECC and Adelphi University rules and regulations, both academically and athletically. Rivera-Barracato also serves as the S.A.A.C (Student Athlete Advisory Committee) Advisor and the Champs/Life Skills Coordinator for the department. Prior to her appointment, she served as Events Manager/Special Projects Coordinator, in which she was responsible for all of Adelphi's Intercollegiate sporting events, game day operations and all other technical aspects of each sporting event including event staff and revenue generating areas. She will continue to be responsible for the over site of several athletic programs within the athletic department including the department of Event Management and the over site of special events such as university golf outings, student-athlete orientation, midnight madness, athletic open houses, and homecoming, to name a few. Rivera-Barracato is also instrumental in the marketing, promotion and community outreach efforts of the department. She works closely with Athletic Media Relations, Office of Development, Alumni Relations and the Center for Student Leadership and Activities. In addition, Rivera is involved with different committees on campus such as the Title IX Committee, Hispanic Heritage Month Committee, the National Student Athlete Awards Dinner Committee (Chair), Hall of Fame Committee, and the Affinity/Student/Athletic Workgroup committee. In addition to her responsibilities at Adelphi, Rivera-Barracato has been selected to be a facilitator at the NCAA Leadership Conference and is a member on the NCAA DII Women's Basketball Committee. Additionally, she is a 2006 graduate of the NCAA's Leadership Institute for Ethnic Minority Females. Rivera-Barracato obtained her masters degree in Sports Management from Adelphi University in 2005 and completed her bachelor's degree in Graphic Design from Hofstra University in 2000. While at Hofstra, Rivera-Barracato was a four-year letterwinner on the Women's Basketball Team earning all-conference honors and all-defense honors. She graduated as Hofstra's all-time steals leader and one of the top leaders in assists. In 1999, she led the nation (Division I) in steals. Rivera-Barracato has also played professionally for the Women's Basketball League in Puerto Rico with "Las Santas de San Juan" and for the National Women's Basketball League (NWBL) with the Atlanta Justice in Atlanta, Georgia. Rivera-Barracato is currently a member of the NACWAA (National Association of Collegiate Women Athletic Administrators) and the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA). |
