The Adelphi University Athletic Department, in conjunction with its CHAMPS/Lifeskills program, will again be accepting donated items at all home basketball games through February 28, 2009. The proceeds will go to the Salvation Army of Hempstead, New York.

Items in need are personal hygiene and other toiletries. Suggested donations include, but are not limited to:

Shampoo/conditioner
Soap (liquid or bar)
Toothpaste
Toothbrushes
Lotion
Razors
Feminine products
Dishwashing liquid
Paper products (toilet paper, paper towels, tissues and wet wipes)

In most cases, the above mentioned items are not covered by government assistance as they are considered "luxury items" and all will be used to help the poor and indigent throughout Hempstead.

This year, in addition to accepting donations from the general population, each athletic team has been assigned a specific game to present their donated items.

Over the last two years Adelphi has donated approximately 15-20 boxes of toiletry items to the Salvation Army. Receptacles will be placed in the atrium of the Center for Recreation and Sports. For more information, please call 516-877-4294.
