Garden City, N.Y. - Adelphi University seniors Richard Byrd (Central Islip, New York) and Ashley Caiafa (Massapequa Park, New York) have been named Adelphi University Athletes of The Week for the week of December 6, 2010.

Byrd made the best of a 0-2 week for the Panthers, averaging 15.5 points and eight rebounds per game. He had his best game of the week in a home loss to Southern Connecticut State, scoring 22 points, grabbing nine misses and picking up five steals.

The Panthers return to action on December 7 when they play host to the University of New Haven at 7:30 pm.

Caiafa helped Adelphi to a 1-1 week, including the teams first Northeast-10 win of the season, a 67-47 victory over Southern Connecticut State. For the week Caiafa averaged 19 points, five rebounds and three assists. Her best game came in Adelphi's win over the Owls, as she had 21 points, nine rebounds and four assists.

Adelphi takes to the court again on December 7 when they host the University of New Have at 5:30 pm in Garden City, New York.
