Miles for Myles Event Raises Over $300 For Pancreatic Research

Garden City, N.Y. - Adelphi University's Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) sponsored the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) Miles for Myles Walk on Friday, November 6. In total, the event raised over $300 with over 100 participants walking in honor of NCAA President Myles Brand who sucuumbed to pancreatic cancer in September, 2009.

The event took place on the indoor recreational jogging track in the Center for Recreation & Sports. Members of SAAC helped to register participants and collect donations. In adidtion to faculty, staff and administrators, many athletic teams also participated.

The funds raised will be given to the Myles Brand Chair in Cancer Research at Indiana University School of Medicine, the Kay Yow/WBCA Cancer Fund, and Coaches vs.Cancer.

"SAAC would like to thank all of the students and members of the community for participating in the Miles for Myles walk," said SAAC advisor and Head Men's Lacrosse Coach Gordon Purdie. "With help from other colleges and universities nationwide, the Myles for Miles walk was a success, and we hope to see everyone again next year."
