SAAC Hosts Sixth Annual NYCAC Brunch

Nov. 13, 2003

Garden City, N.Y. - On Sunday, October 19, 2003, the Adelphi Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) hosted the sixth annual NYCAC Brunch on its Garden City Campus. The event was a huge success, with the largest participation of member institutions to date.

Adelphi SAAC Executive Board President, Jennifer Garone, repeated her role as MC of the event, which brought together over 90 student-athletes, coaches and administrators.

The purpose of the brunch was to gather the SAAC committees from all 13 NYCAC institutions to update one another on what each committee has been doing throughout the year. It was also a way for them to exchange ideas from fundraising and community service projects, to various programs held at each school. The meeting also allowed each SAAC to discuss situations that may and or have occurred at others campuses, and how these incidents were handled.

In addition to this valuable exchange, SAAC welcomed several speakers. NYCAC/SAAC representative Allison Schultz spoke about her experience at the NCAA DII Leadership Conference as well as facilitated a round-table discussion. In addition, Steve Worth, owner of the New York Sports Physical Therapy Institution and President of Adelphi University Panther Club, along with Dr. Marc Grossman, Orthopedic Surgeon at Winthrop University Hospital, spoke of sport injuries and wellness. Anthony Bonomo, Esq., also addressed the issue of ethics is sport.

SAAC is committed to generating a positive voice for the student-athletes within its university and the NCAA. Its mission is to enhance the total student-athlete experience by promoting opportunity, protecting student-athlete welfare and fostering a positive student-athlete image.
