Nov. 10, 2004 Garden City, N.Y. - Junior Matt Smith (Warwick, N.Y.) and senior Josephine Coiro (West Babylon, N.Y.) have been named Adelphi's Athletes of the Week for the week of November 9, 2004. Smith scored Adelphi's only goal of the week last week in a 4-1 loss to Florida Atlantic. Smith opened the scoring in Adelphi game against FAU, it was Smith's second goal of the season. Adelphi closes out the regular season on Saturday, November 13th when they take on conference opponent Philadelphia University in Philadelphia. Game time is set for noon. Coiro helped the Panthers capture the NYCAC's first ever women's soccer tournament title. Coiro assisted on two of Adelphi's three goals in the Panthers semi-final win over New Haven. Then in the final Coiro scored the game winner in the 98th minute to lift the Panthers to the win. For her efforts in the tournament Coiro was named the tournament's Most Valuable Player. The eighth ranked Panthers are seeded second in the Northeast and will take on Indiana University of Pennsylvania in the first round of the NCAA Division II tournament. The game will be played on Friday, November 12th at Southampton. |
