Nov. 2, 2006 Garden City, N.Y. - The Adelphi women's soccer team and senior Ron Forman (Massapequa, N.Y.) have been named Adelphi's Athletes of The Week for the week of October 30, 2006. The women's soccer team captured their second East Coast Conference (ECC) tournament title in three years by edging out host Bridgeport on penalty kicks 5-4. The Panthers advanced to the final by topping New Haven in the first round on penalty kicks (3-2) after playing to a 1-1 tie through regulation and two overtimes. For her play during the tournament Catherine Wyndham (Lynbrook, N.Y.) was named MVP. The tournament title left the Panthers with a 12-1-6 overall record. Forman scored the game-winner in the 83rd minute of play, heading in a cross from Rob Philippou (Manhasset, N.Y.) to secure a 1-0 win for the Panthers. The goal was Forman's fifth of the season and when added to his one assist gives him a team-high 11 points. Men's soccer returns to action on Friday, November 3 when they host Philadelphia University in the first round of the Atlantic Soccer Conference tournament at 11:00 am. |
