Men's Soccer and Cross-Country Named Adelphi Athletes of The Week

Oct. 25, 2006

Garden City, N.Y. - The Adelphi University men's soccer team has been named Adelphi's Athletes of the Week along with both the men and women's cross-country teams for the week of October 23, 2006.

The men's cross-country team placed four runners in the top-10 and six in the top-15 to capture a share of the 2006 East Coast Conference (ECC) Championship. The Panthers scored 36 points, finishing knotted with C.W. Post. This is the first ECC title for the men's program since 2001.

The men's soccer team topped Philadelphia University, 2-1 on October 21 to clinch the first Atlantic Soccer Conference (ASC) regular season title in program history. The championship earns the Panthers the top seed in the ASC tournament and the right to host.

Cross-Country returns to action on Sunday, November 5 at the NCAA Division II Northeast Regional, while men's soccer closes out the regular season at 1:00 pm on October 28 against NJIT.

The women's cross-country team captured the program's first team title since 2002, scoring a total of just 36 points. Adelphi placed seven runners in the top-15 and eight in the top-20, out distancing second place C.W. Post by 21 points (36-57).

Adelphi returns to action on Sunday, November 5 when they participate in the NCAA Division II Northeast Regional at Franklin Park in Boston, Massachusetts.
