Michael Hurley and Claudia Nunez Named Adelphi Athletes of The Week

Sept. 28, 2005

Garden City, N.Y. - Senior Michael Hurley (Freeport, N.Y.) and sophomore Claudia Nunez (Aventura, FL) have been named Adelphi's Athletes of The Week for the week of September 27, 2005.

Hurley played every minute of Adelphi's 1-0 overtime loss to Princeton, making two saves in regulation to keep the game scoreless and help the Panthers get to overtime. On the season Hurley has appeared in seven games and collected 42 saves.

Adelphi returns to action on Wednesday, September 28 when they play host to visiting LIU-Brooklyn at 4:00 pm on Stiles Field.

Nunez continued her strong conference play, picking up two more wins last week to stay undefeated in the NYCAC at number one singles. In her two wins over St. Thomas Aquinas and Queens Nunez dropped just four sets.

Nunez also competed in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) East Regional over the weekend as the ninth seed in the "A" singles draw. By virtue of her seeding Nunez received a first round bye. Nunez dispatched her next two opponents to advance to the quarterfinals, where she fell to the top ranked player in the bracket. For her efforts Nunez was named NYCAC Player of The Week.

The women's tennis team returns to action on Thursday, September 29 when they play host to visiting Concordia at 3:30 pm.
