April 24, 2007 Garden City, N.Y. - Senior Jaime Julia-Perez (Amsterdam, N.Y.) and junior Julie Schaper (Warwick, N.Y.) have been named Adelphi Athlete's of the Week for the week of April 23, 2007. Julia-Perez helped the Panthers to a seventh place showing out of 18 scoring teams at the CTC Outdoor Championships by collecting wins in two individual events. Julia-Perez started his day by clocking a personal best of 4:00.77 in the 1500 meter run to best second place by almost two seconds. Later in the meet he cruised to a victory in the 5000-meter run, stopping the clock at 15:46.39, nearly nine second better then second place. He also anchored the 4x800 meter relay team to a sixth place finish. Julia-Perez will return to action on Thursday, April 26 when he competes in the 10,000 meter Championship of America at PENN Relays. Schaper starred both at the plate and on the mound as she helped the Panthers to a 6-0 week, which extended their win streak to 11 games overall and 13 games in the conference. Schaper hit .429 on the week with seven RBI and eight runs scored, including three doubles. On the mound she was 3-0 with a 0.37 ERA, giving up just one run, while striking out 30 and walking three. Schaper also threw a three-hit shut out against Philadelphia on Sunday. For her efforts Schaper was named the ECC Player of the Week. Adelphi returns to action on Tuesday, April 24 when they travel to Bridgeport for an ECC doubleheader. |
