Stephen Malvagna and Julie Schaper Named Adelphi Athletes of The Week

Garden City, N.Y. - Junior Stephen Malvagna (East Meadow, N.Y.) and sophomore Julie Schaper (Warwick, N.Y.) have been named Adelphi's Athletes of The Week for the week of April 4, 2006.

Malvagna appeared in all five games last week, compiling a batting average of .500 with nine hits, including on double. Malvagna helped the Panthers to two NYCAC wins last week by driving in a total of five runs and scoring two.

Baseball returns to action on Tuesday, April 4 when they play host to NYCAC opponent New Have at 3:00 pm.

Schaper helped Adelphi to a 5-1 overall record and a 3-1 conference mark last week. On the mound Schaper posted a record of 2-0 with an ERA of 1.02, including striking out 21 batters, while giving up just five hits.

Schaper was just as valuable at the plate, posting a batting average of .526 with 10 hits, nine runs scored, nine RBI and four extra base hits, including a her first home run of the season. She also swiped three bases.

Softball returns to action on Tuesday, April 4 when they host St. Thomas Aquinas at 3:00 pm on Janet L. Ficke Field.
