Garden City, N.Y. - Freshman Richard Byrd (Central Islip, N.Y.) and senior Gianna Smith (Hempstead, N.Y.) have been named Adelphi's Athletes of the Week for the week of March 3.

Byrd averaged 13 points, 4.5 rebounds and 2.5 assists in a 2-0 week against the University of Bridgeport and LIU -C.W. Post. He had eight points, four rebounds and two assists against Bridgeport, and 18 points, five rebounds and three assists against #18 C.W. Post.

Adelphi returns to action on Wednesday, March 5, when they host the first round of the ECC playoffs against Molloy College beginning at 7:00 p.m. in Historic Woodruff Hall.

Smith entered the women's basketball record book as the school's all-time leading scorer with a 12 point effort en route to a 55-52 win for Adelphi over C.W. Post. Smith scored just once in the first half and it came at the 5:48 mark as she notched her 1,520th point, surpassing the previous record of 1,519 set by Kendra Koneski in 1996.

The Panthers return to action on Wednesday, March 5, in the first round of the ECC playoffs. They are tentatively slated to face the University of Bridgeport. Game time to be determined.
