Akinyooye and Eickelberg Named Adelphi Athletes of The Week

Garden City, N.Y. - Adelphi University Senior David Akinyooye (Elmont, N.Y.) and freshman Elizabeth Eickelberg (Leonia, NJ) have been named Adelphi Athletes of The Week for the week of January 31, 2011.

Akinyooye helped the Panthers to a 1-1 record last week, averaging a double-double with 14 points and 14 rebounds. he had 14 points and a career-high 20 rebounds in a 69-53 win over Franklin Pierce, and then matched that offensive out put with 14 more points in a loss at Saint Michael's. He also chipped in eight rebounds while in Vermont and had five blocks, four assists and two steals on the week.

Adelphi returns to action on Wednesday, February 2 when they travel to Pleasantville, New York to take on NE-10 opponent Pace.

Eickelberg posted not only a personal best, but the fastest time in the Northeast-10 when she covered 5000 meters in 18:49.28 at the Boston Terrier Classic on Friday, January 28. Her time clocking, achieved in her first attempt at the distance indoors, was just over one second ahead of second place in the conference.

The Panthers take the track again on Friday, February 4 when they travel to the Armory Track and Field Center in New York, New York to compete in the New Balance Collegiate Invitational.
