The Adelphi University Department of Intercollegiate and Campus Recreation are sponsoring its first-ever Breast Cancer Awareness Fun Run/Walk on Thursday, February 19, from 11:00am-6:00 p.m. in the Center for Recreation and Sports. All proceeds from the event will benefit the Adelphi NY Statewide Breast Cancer Hotline and Support Center. Sign up in advance or the day of for a 20 minute time slot to walk or run one mile. The entry free is $5 with all proceeds going to the hotline. The first 75 people to sign up will receive a free t-shirt. To register for the run/walk, please call (516) 877-4243 or stop by the Campus Recreation Office in the Center for Recreation and Sports. The event was sparked by the recent decision by NY State to eliminate $300,000 in funding to the Hotline. For over 29 years, the hotline has helped thousands of New Yorkers through counseling, educational programs and outreach to the underserved. Eliminating the program will leave thousands of women without the necessary support needed during and after their breast cancer diagnosis. The run/walk is one of a series of events sponsored by the Athletics Department culminating in a WBCA Pink Zone promotion at the women's basketball game on Saturday, February 21 vs. Dowling College at 1:00 p.m. |
