Jan. 31, 2006 Garden City, N.Y. - Junior Kimani Blaize (Brooklyn, N.Y.) and freshman Lisa Manetta (Glendale, N.Y.) have been named Adelphi's Athletes of The Week for the week of January 31, 2006. Blaize helped the Panthers move into a tie for first place in the NYCAC, hitting on 75 percent of his three-point attempts (9-12) and 65.4 percent of his field goal attempts (17-26) in three games last week. In the three Adelphi wins Blaize averaged 16.3 points and was a perfect 6-6 from the free throw line. The Panthers will return to the court on Wednesday, February 1 when they host visiting Queens College at 7: 30 pm to break the first place NYCAC tie. Manetta had a hand in the Panthers three wins last week, averaging 9.7 points per game. Her best effort of the week came in Adelphi's 73-64 win at St. Thomas Aquinas, Manetta poured in 17 points, handed out seven assists and pulled down six rebounds. She was also a perfect eight-for-eight from the charity stripe. For her efforts she was named NYCAC Co-Rookie of The Week, sharing the honor with St. Thomas Aquinas freshman center Corinne Albrecht (Samsonville, N.Y.). The Panthers return to action on Wednesday, February 1 when they host Queens College at 5:30 pm in Woodruff Hall. |
