Garden City, N.Y. - Senior Kimani Blaize (Brooklyn, N.Y.) and junior Gianna Smith (Hempstead, N.Y.) have been named Adelphi Athletes of the Week for the week of January 8, 2007.

Blaize scored 24 points to help the Panthers to a 66-62 win over visiting Philadelphia University on Saturday, January 6. His 24 points, including 10-13 from the foul line, were crucial in picking up the win. Blaize also pulled down eight rebounds and added three assists and two blocks.

The Panthers return to action on Wednesday, January 10 when they play host to visiting New Haven.

Smith continued her strong play for the Panthers, as she accounted for more than a third of her team's points, when she scored 26 points in a 66-62 loss at Caldwell. She also grabbed 11 rebounds on the afternoon. So far in 2006-07, Smith is the only Adelphi player averaging in double figure scoring at 16.3 points per game.

Adelphi returns to action on Wednesday, January 10, hosting the University of New Haven at 5:30 p.m.
