SAAC and the Athletic Department continue to support and run the Cans for Cancer recycling program on campus. The proceeds that are collected are donated to children with cancer within the Winthrop Cancer Center for Kids and cancer research. The University Athletic Department has presented Winthrop University Hospital with over $14 000 for the recycled cans that have been collected on campus over the past 3 years. On Monday February 11, 2008 members of the Adelphi University Student Athlete Advisory Committee (S.A.A.C) and CHAMPS/Life Skills program met with Linda Sweeney and other representatives from Winthrop University Hospital to present a check for over $7 000 from last year's Cans for Cancer Program collection.
